In the criminal case, FSB investigators claimed that Ihor Kopylo was recruited in the summer of 2022 by representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and received the operational codename 'Myth'. According to the Russian prosecution, from January to April 2023, he engaged in active intelligence and sabotage activities in Sevastopol.
