Biography

Detention: On June 10, 2020, Russian security forces detained Danylo Reshetnichenko. On the same day, Andriy Kuliyevych, Mykola Lahutin, and Valentyn Khoroshaiev were also detained.

According to the Russian side, in May 2020, Reshetnichenko and other case participants distributed leaflets in public places in Crimea calling for the overthrow of the Russian Federation's government and containing statements interpreted by Russian investigators as justifying such activities. The content of the leaflets was not disclosed by the Russian court. On June 13, 2020, Reshetnichenko was placed under house arrest, later replaced by restrictions on certain actions. Unlike the other three defendants, Reshetnichenko was not accused by the Russian side of directly preparing an explosion.

Sentence: On June 16, 2023, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Danylo Reshetnichenko to 2 years in a settlement colony under Part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code — "public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism, or propaganda of terrorism." According to the Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, he served his sentence in Settlement Colony No. 1 in Kerch.

Danylo Reshetnichenko was born on March 19, 2002. He is a resident of Crimea and lived in the city of Saky. According to the profile of the Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, before his detention, he was associated with a group involved in selling clothing along with other activists. According to secret witnesses in the Russian case, members of this group often discussed political topics.

In May 2020, Danylo Reshetnichenko, along with Andriy Kuliyevych, Mykola Lahutin, and Valentyn Khoroshaiev, according to Russian investigators, distributed leaflets in public places in occupied Crimea. The Russian side claimed they contained calls for the overthrow of the Russian Federation's government. However, the specific content of the leaflets was not disclosed in court reports.

In addition to the charges related to the leaflets, the Russian side accused the other three defendants — Kuliyevych, Lahutin, and Khoroshaiev — of allegedly preparing a terrorist act in Crimea. According to the investigation, they supposedly searched for potential explosion sites, checked for anti-terrorist protection, and manufactured explosive devices. These charges were not brought against Danylo Reshetnichenko, whose case focused on public calls and justification of terrorism.

On June 10, 2020, Danylo Reshetnichenko was detained by Russian security forces. On June 13, the court placed him under house arrest. From June 13, 2020, to February 6, 2021, he was under house arrest and subject to restrictions on certain actions. Afterward, he was placed under a travel ban until the sentence became legally binding.

The trial was conducted as part of a criminal case that Ukrainian human rights defenders consider politically motivated persecution of residents of occupied Crimea. The public and independent media were not allowed access to the court sessions, preventing a full assessment of compliance with fair trial standards.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center called the sentences of the case participants illegal and politically motivated.

On June 16, 2023, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Danylo Reshetnichenko to two years in a settlement colony. On the same day, Andriy Kuliyevych was sentenced to 7 years and 5 months, Mykola Lahutin to 7 years, and Valentyn Khoroshaiev to 7 years and 3 months of imprisonment.

In 2024, Danylo Reshetnichenko's sentence became legally binding. According to the human rights project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial," this occurred on November 6, 2024. The profile of the Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea states that he was held in Settlement Colony No. 1 in Kerch.

As of September 9, 2026, there is no confirmed newer information in open priority Ukrainian sources about a change in Danylo Reshetnichenko's place of detention. Therefore, the last confirmed place of his detention remains Settlement Colony No. 1 in Kerch, Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
