Arrest: On February 14, 2023, officers of the FSB of the Russian Federation detained Crimean Tatar Osman Kadyrov, a resident of the village of Yarke Pole in occupied Crimea. The basis for the prosecution was the accusation of involvement with the so-called "Noman Çelebicihan Battalion."

Sentence: In June 2023, Osman was sentenced to 2 years in a correctional colony, and in August, the term was increased to 5 years, with the first year in prison.

Osman Kadyrov is one of many Crimean Tatars who became targets of political repression by the Russian Federation following the occupation of Crimea. He is an elderly man who lived in Crimea and had no connections with any paramilitary groups. He served as the village head of Zolote Pole for many years before the occupation of Crimea. However, Russian security forces included 62-year-old Osman in the latest wave of persecutions under the so-called "Noman Çelebicihan Battalion case."

After the occupation of Crimea, Russia began actively using criminal law as a tool to pressure local residents. One of the most common practices has been initiating cases allegedly for participation in terrorist or extremist organizations. Little is known about Osman Kadyrov, but his story is part of a broader picture of systemic persecution in Crimea.
