Biography

Detention: In 2021, she was detained by Russian security forces during a rally in support of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and was sentenced to five days of administrative arrest due to a video published in 2014, when she was only 15 years old. On January 22, 2024, Alina Greck was again detained by FSB officers. The Russian investigation accused her of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), preparation of a terrorist act (Part 1, Article 30, Part 1, Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and undergoing training for terrorist activities (Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, she allegedly collaborated with Ukrainian military intelligence and prepared to set fire to a relay cabinet on the railway. These claims cannot be independently verified due to the closed nature of the case.

Sentence: On August 14, 2025, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found Alina Greck guilty on all charges and sentenced her to 15 years in a general regime colony with subsequent restriction of freedom. After the verdict, she was transferred to Pre-trial Detention Centre No. 3 in Novocherkassk ('Krasna Gorka') in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation. The human rights project 'Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial' included her in the list of individuals with significant signs of politically motivated criminal prosecution, noting that due to the closed nature of the case materials, a final conclusion on her status as a political prisoner requires further analysis.

There is little biographical information about Alina Greck in open sources. It is known that she was born on May 1, 1999, lived in Simferopol, and studied at a university. After her administrative arrest in 2021, she remained under the scrutiny of Russian security structures. Human rights activists believe her repeated detention occurred amid systematic repressions against pro-Ukrainian residents of occupied Crimea.

During the pre-trial investigation, Alina was held in custody for an extended period. The trial was conducted with significant restrictions on public access, and most of the criminal case materials were classified. This was one of the reasons human rights organizations called for independent international monitoring of the case.

During the trial, the Russian side claimed that Alina Greck allegedly underwent training for terrorist activities, maintained contact with representatives of Ukrainian military intelligence, and prepared sabotage on a railway infrastructure facility. Meanwhile, independent human rights defenders emphasize that due to the closed nature of the process, it is impossible to verify the accuracy of these claims or assess the evidence on which the charges were based. A significant portion of the case materials remained inaccessible to the public, and the hearings were held in a closed session.

The human rights project 'Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial' included Alina Greck in the list of individuals with significant signs of politically motivated criminal prosecution. Experts note that criminal cases under articles on treason, terrorism, and sabotage are increasingly used by Russia against Ukrainian citizens in temporarily occupied territories. At the same time, the organization notes that due to the closed nature of the case materials, a final legal assessment is possible only after gaining full access to the documents.

Alina Greck's case is also covered by the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, ZMINA, the Media Initiative for Human Rights (MIHR), the Center for Civil Liberties, and other organizations documenting cases of politically motivated persecution of Ukrainian citizens in Crimea and other temporarily occupied territories.

As of July 9, 2026, Alina Greck remains unlawfully imprisoned in the territory of the Russian Federation. Human rights activists continue to monitor her case and emphasize the need for an open trial, respect for the right to defense, and the release of all Ukrainian citizens held on politically motivated charges.
