Arrest: On November 25, 2014, Edem Khalitovich Ebulisov, a resident of Simferopol, was detained on the street. The reason was his participation in a peaceful rally welcoming the national leader of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Dzhemilev, on May 3, 2014, in Armyansk. According to the investigation, during those events, Ebulisov allegedly struck a police officer with a flagpole. Before the arrest, a search was conducted at his home, during which a Crimean Tatar national flag was found and included as evidence. The case is handled by lawyer Emil Kurbedinov. Ebulisov was charged under Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code (“use of violence against a government official”), with penalties ranging from a fine to 5 years of imprisonment.

Sentence: The Kyiv District Court of Simferopol imposed a preventive measure of two months of imprisonment on Edem Ebulisov. He was released in 2015.

Edem Khalitovich Ebulisov is a resident of Simferopol and a professional driver. He was born in 1970. At the time of his arrest, he was the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes a housewife and three minor children. The relatives of the detainee were in a difficult emotional state and refused to communicate with the press.

The Ebulisov case is part of the so-called “May 3 case,” a mass persecution of Crimean Tatars who participated in a peaceful rally welcoming Mustafa Dzhemilev. On May 3, 2014, about a thousand Crimean Tatars gathered at the administrative border of Crimea, where the FSB blocked their leader's entry. The Crimean Tatars broke through the OMON police line. In total, five individuals were criminally prosecuted in this case: Ebulisov, Musa Abkerimov, Rustem Abdurakhmanov, Tair Smedlyaev, and Edem Osmanov. Lawyer Kurbedinov considered there were sufficient grounds to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
