Detention: On March 5, 2024, Mustafa Abduramanov was detained following a search of his home in Bakhchisarai. On this day, Russian security forces conducted simultaneous searches in ten homes of Crimean Tatars in the Bakhchisarai and Dzhankoy districts of occupied Crimea. After the search, Mustafa Abduramanov and three other Bakhchisarai activists — Memet Lumanov, Aziz Azizov, and Rustem Osmanov — were sent to a pre-trial detention centre.

The Russian authorities charged Abduramanov under Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code — allegedly for "organizing the activities of a terrorist organization." This relates to the persecution in the so-called "Hizb ut-Tahrir case." It is important to note that the designation of "terrorist organization" is a qualification under Russian law: "Hizb ut-Tahrir" operates legally in Ukraine and most countries worldwide.

Verdict: As of September 2, 2026, no information about a conviction of Mustafa Abduramanov has been found in open verified sources. His case is still under judicial review.

Mustafa Abduramanov was born on April 1, 1988. He is a Crimean Tatar and lived in Bakhchisarai. By profession, he is an auto mechanic. He is married and the father of four children.

After moving to Bakhchisarai, Mustafa began attending a mosque and studying the Quran. According to his mother, Zera Abduramanova, he was religious from a young age. At six, he was already reciting the adhan — the call to prayer. Later, he became an auto mechanic and worked, among other things, driving a Gazelle vehicle for city transport.

Gradually, Mustafa began actively assisting Crimean Tatars who faced political persecution after the occupation of Crimea.

He frequently traveled to Rostov-on-Don, where court hearings for Crimean political prisoners took place. According to his mother, he later started using his car to transport the mothers and wives of political prisoners from Crimea to the courts in Rostov-on-Don, helping families attend hearings and support their loved ones.

His civic activities attracted the attention of Russian security services. Even before his criminal prosecution, he faced issues for participating in peaceful actions. In 2017, Mustafa received seven days of administrative arrest for participating in an "unauthorized rally." In 2019, he and his cousin Ametkhan Umerov traveled to Moscow for a protest action, after which both were fined.

Following mass searches on March 5, 2024, he was detained and sent to a pre-trial detention centre. Mustafa's case became part of the so-called "sixth Bakhchisarai group" in the "Hizb ut-Tahrir case." Along with him, activists Memet Lumanov, Aziz Azizov, and citizen journalist Rustem Osmanov are involved in this group.

In March 2026, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don extended the detention of him and other members of the "sixth Bakhchisarai group."
